The black maxi dress.
With this pregnancy I find myself reaching for easy to wear, needs no ironing, can withstand a messy toddler, kind of clothes. If there’s one such item in my closet it has got to be this sleeveless maxi dress I bought during my first pregnancy. It’s not designed as maternity wear but because of the stretchy fabric and cut, it literally grows with you during pregnancy. Plus I bought it in a size bigger than I was at the time. I’ve mostly worn it with loose cardigans but it looks just as good with a long sleeve t-shirt underneath. Add the right accessories and this dress goes from casual to evening ready.

Dress: The Bay
Cardigan: Thyme Maternity
Here’s how I styled it for a wedding during my first pregnancy:

Eid Mubarak everyone! Taqqaballahu minna wa minkum! May Allah accept from me and you.
I hope you had an enjoyable Eid. It was a great Eid weekend for us Alhamdulillah. As usual, lots of food and lots of family visits. I managed to only get a quick snap of one of my Eid outfits. As it’s summer I went with something semi casual, colourful and lightweight.
Hijab: Vela Scarves
Lace Cardigan: Hayah Collection
Alhamdullilah, Baby T loves nature and being outside. One of his favourite things to do is pick flowers….which then goes into the mouth for some taste testing!
He’s mesmerized by the falling rain.
It takes me forever to get dressed now…partly due to the ‘selecting the outfit’ phase! I’ve attributed this to a few factors:
- weight gain due to pregnancy
- I’ve lost half of my pregnancy weight and haven’t really bought any new clothes aside from the occasional cardigan and blouse. As a result, my wardrobe seems very limited (and snug!).
- the limited clothing choices I have is reduced even more to those items that I can comfortably nurse in.
And to make matters more trying are the multiple weddings we’ve attended in the past couple weeks. I refuse to buy or sew new outfits for every event so I’ve had to come up with creative ways to wear pieces that I already own. The dress below was first worn to my graduation and then later to a family event. Both times I wore it with a shirt under for a semi-casual look but for a wedding I wanted something more formal so I wore a black blazer over. I added a few bling pieces for some sparkle as well.

Which look do you prefer?
Alhamdulillah, we were blessed with a healthy baby boy on the evening of October 7. I’ll be blogging sporadically as I adjust to being a new mom. Please keep us in your prayers.
